Ron Massey Cup & Sydney Shield | Round Six
Our Sydney Shield side enjoyed a well-earned rest with the bye this weekend, using the opportunity to reset and prepare for the weeks ahead.
.
In the Ron Massey Cup, Mounties responded strongly on Saturday night with a much-improved performance against Manly.
After last week’s off outing, the side came out with clear intent. Brad Abbey set the tone early, crossing for two tries in the opening two sets to give Mounties immediate momentum.
.
Keahlan Bray controlled the game with precision, while Jack Miller posed a constant threat on the edge with his running intent. The middle unit laid a strong platform, generating momentum and allowing the edges to capitalise with well-executed attacking opportunities.
There were also impressive contributions from Nick Stonestreet and Jared Nauma in their first hit-out with the group, both playing big minutes and adding genuine impact.
.
Assistant Coach Jason Dorahy summed it up best:
“It was a strong response from the group after last week’s performance. We started with intent, laid a solid platform through the middle and gave ourselves opportunities on the edges. There’s still improvement in us, particularly in the second half, but it’s a step in the right direction and something we can build on.”
.
A positive bounce-back performance as we continue to build momentum through the season.
